Virtuoso of “tango nuevo”, Burak is well-known for his bold and sensitive interpretations of tango music. Every movement he uses is taken strictly from the tango vocabulary, which he deconstructs and reconstructs in his own surprising way.
Burak is the co-founder of Tango Social Club, and creator of several prestigious tango events in the USA. He travels a lot to perform, teach and DJ. With Astrid Weiske, he’s now promoting a queer tango retreat in Mexico on February 22nd to 29th 2016 (https://go.tango.guide). He’s a very rare teacher in Montreal.

MORE ABOUT BRIGITTA
"I have witnessed her take a hundred nervous strangers and transform them into a group with one or two simple warm-ups emphasizing contact. Her aproach inspired me. The mingling of Authentic Movement and Tango so polar in their outer form has made a spicy new soup of experience within my conscious body." - Jeanne Marie Castle (writer)
Interview http://tangoforge.com/brigitta-winkler/
"It’s true I was one of the first ones here and I have a lot of experience, 34 years of tango. I am not so interested in the history. I think the history serves for the experience you have. You collect experience. What is interesting is what do I do with all of that now. Since the future is not written, what matters is what you do with it."

Saturday October 17th 2015: Krista (Worcester, USA)
Krista hails from Massachusetts's heartland, the city of Worcester. Krista was an athlete growing up, running around like a wild child, and had no time for non-tomboy things such as dancing. While in college, on a whim, she jumped in a car with other students to attend a tango lesson. She never looked back. Now, she teaches at her local tango scene in Worcester as well as attending and teaching at Queer Tango Boston. Her teaching interests range far and wide but focus heavily on generating new movements with simple elements always returning to the idea of "what can I do to make this dance, with this partner, in this moment work?" 5-7 JUILLET 2013 - 1er FESTIVAL DE QUEER TANGO DE MONTREAL
Trois jours d'ateliers et milongas avec des profs et participants d'Ottawa et Boston.
QUEER TANGO FESTIVAL MONTREAL July 5th-7th 2013 (press release)
Canada’s first ever Queer Tango Festival will take place July 5th-7th 2013 at Tangueria! Montreal is an exceptionally vibrant city known for its effervescent queer community, and is also the undisputed capital of Argentine Tango in North America. This queer tango festival will mark Montreal's history. Open to absolute beginners and experienced dancers of all genders and orientations, and featuring guest teachers and performers from Norway, France and Buenos Aires, the festival is coordinated by tango dancers Alejandro Villalobos, Viva Delorme and Miriam Ginestier, who is best known for her legendary Meow Mix cabarets and le Boudoir soirées.
Argentine tango is a complex and sensual improvisational dance. Traditionally, it reflects patriarchal views on sexuality and gender relations, where the man is the decision-maker while the woman responds.
Queer Tango embraces Argentine tango while challenging heteronormative roles encouraging a fluid exchange of the leader and follower roles. Dancers are invited to choose the role they prefer or to exchange roles, depending on the person they are dancing with and the moment they decide to do so. The queer tango movement permits provides a safe and playful tango environment for the LGBT and genderqueer communities, but also supports female leaders and male followers, regardless of their sexual orientation.
This festival is a prelude to the International Queer Tango Festival of Buenos Aires which will honour Montreal at it’s upcoming 7th edition from November 17th to 23rd 2013.

QUEER TANGO FESTIVAL MONTREAL 2013 : Teacher biographies
Miriam Ginestier **assistant teacher + organizer**
Miriam Ginestier is a former performer and currently the director of Studio 303, a multidisciplinary arts centre in Montreal. Highly active in Montreal's queer community, Miriam is best known for her legendary cabaret soirée, le Boudoir, as well as monthly Meow Mix performance parties at the Sala Rossa which will be immortalised in a photo exhibit retrospective by Sasha Brunelle at Fierté Montréal this summer. Miriam has danced tango for a long time, but not often enough! Miriam started organizing occasional queer tango workshops back in 1997 with Mireille Painchaud. Then in 2009 she met…
Viva Delorme **assistant teacher + organizer**
Viva started tango when she arrived in Montreal in 2010. In 2011, she and life/dance partner Miriam Ginestier started a queer tango group and organized regular classes with Paul Montpetit, workshops with various guest instructors, and regular milongas all at Tangueria. Through these activities, and in collaboration with local instructor and dancer Alejandro Villalobos, a queer tango community has finally emerged in Montreal. Together, the three are coordinating Montreal's first Queer Tango festival in July, and will represent Montreal - honourary city - at International Queer Tango Festival of Buenos Aires in November 2013.
Alejandro Villalobos **teacher + organizer**
Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz Mexico, Alejandro Villalobos is a professional dancer specialised in contemporary and classical dance as well as in Mexican folkloric dancing. In Quebec, he has worked with many projects and choreographers including Nicolas Dixon, Electrotango, Tropicalissima, Danse ton ADN at Nuit Blanche and Groupe de danse Johanne Gour. Alejandro also choreographed pieces at Foro Experimental, at the Auditorio Josefina Lavalle, and at the Centro de Convenciones, en Mexico. He was introduced to Argentine tango in Buenos Aires at the Mora Godoy School and studied with Mylène Pelletier at Air de Tango in Montreal where he regularly teaches queer tango.
Lucas de Buenos Aires **guest teacher**
Lucas De Buenos Aires, a genderqueer tanguero, was taught first by family in Buenos Aires, and then in its milongas. Since beginning to teach in San Telmo, Lucas has brought tango to the people of Boston, Gothenburg, London, New York, Paris, Reykjavik. In addition, this versatile dancer has been a guest artist, repeat instructor, and/or performer at the International Queer Tango Festivals of Berlin, Mexico, New York, San Francisco, Stockholm, and Buenos Aires. "A consummate club kid since 13, many dance styles raging from Butoh to Flamenco have fascinated me, but none have shaken me to the core as Tango has.”
Thierry Guénin and Tobias Svenningsen **guest teachers**
Thierry Guénin and Tobias Svenningsen, who met in Buenos Aires during the first Queer Tango Festival in 2007, have been active for several years in creating spaces where same-sex couples and more largely the LGBT community can enjoy tango. Cofounders of Oslo Tango Queer, they have been teaching in Norway, Sweden, Mexico, Canada. In 2010, Thierry initiated the first Norwegian queer tango festival, Friends, fjords & tango. More recently he has created The Diverse Tango Experience in Ottawa. As teachers, Tobias and Thierry like to focus on communication, musicality and last but not least, relaxing and having fun while dancing.
Paul Montpetit **DJ + performer**
Co-owner of the Tangueria, one of Montreal's first tango schools, Paul is a professional Argentine tango dancer, teacher and DJ with over 20 years of experience. Having perfected his training in Argentina, Paul is one the first instigators of Argentine tango in North America.
